Product overview
ZEELCHEM™ 3100 is a sulfonated copolymer of acrylic acid and 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid (AMPS). The strongly acidic sulfonate group keeps the polymer active in waters with very high calcium hardness, and gives outstanding inhibition of calcium phosphate and stabilisation of zinc, iron and manganese.
Calcium phosphate is the main deposit risk in phosphate-based cooling water programmes. ZEELCHEM™ 3100 inhibits Ca₃(PO₄)₂ formation, stabilises zinc ions so they remain available as cathodic corrosion inhibitors, and disperses iron oxide and suspended solids even under oxidising biocide (chlorine) dosing.
Because of its calcium tolerance and resistance to chlorine, AA/AMPS is a core building block in modern high-cycle cooling water programmes and in membrane antiscalant formulations for reverse-osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration systems.

Technical specifications
| Appearance | Colourless to light-yellow transparent liquid |
|---|---|
| Solid content | ≥ 40.0 % |
| Free monomer (as acrylic acid) | ≤ 0.50 % |
| pH (1 % aqueous solution) | 2.5 – 4.0 |
| Density at 20 °C | ≥ 1.15 g/cm³ |
Values are typical specifications. Each consignment is supplied with a batch Certificate of Analysis. Custom specifications are available on request.
Dosage & method of use
Typical dosage is 5 – 30 mg/L in cooling water, depending on phosphate, zinc and iron levels and cycles of concentration. In RO antiscalant formulations, it is normally used at 5 – 20 % of the formulation.
Dosing calculator
Estimates only. Evaporation is calculated as E = 0.00153 × R × ΔT (°C); blowdown B = E ÷ (COC − 1); product feed for cooling towers = B × dose. The right dose depends on your water analysis, metallurgy and operating conditions. Our technical team will confirm it free of charge.
Packaging
60.0 kg net HDPE carboy. Each carboy is labelled with product name, batch number, net weight and GHS hazard information.
Storage & shelf life
Store in closed HDPE containers in a cool, shaded, ventilated area between 5 °C and 40 °C. Avoid freezing and direct sunlight; mix gently before use if slight stratification is seen. Shelf life: 12 months in unopened packing.
Handling & safety
Mildly acidic polymer solution. Use goggles and gloves; avoid contact with eyes and prolonged skin contact. Rinse spills with water. Refer to the ZEELCHEM™ SDS (GHS format) before handling.
Frequently asked questions
Why use AA/AMPS instead of polyacrylic acid?
The sulfonate group in AMPS gives much higher calcium tolerance and superior calcium phosphate, zinc and iron control, which PAA alone cannot provide.
Is ZEELCHEM™ 3100 compatible with chlorine?
Yes. AA/AMPS copolymer has good stability in the presence of chlorine and other oxidising biocides at normal treatment levels.
Can AA/AMPS be used in RO antiscalants?
Yes. It is widely used as a dispersant and calcium-phosphate inhibitor in RO and NF membrane antiscalant formulations.
