Product overview
ZEELCHEM™ 200 is hydrolysed polymaleic anhydride (HPMA), a low-molecular-weight polycarboxylic acid with a very high density of carboxyl groups. It is one of the most effective threshold inhibitors for carbonate scale under high-temperature and high-alkalinity conditions, remaining effective up to about 350 °C and at pH values where many other inhibitors lose performance.
HPMA works by threshold inhibition and lattice distortion: it adsorbs on the micro-crystals of calcium and magnesium carbonate and distorts their growth, so the deposit that does form is soft, non-adherent and easily removed by blowdown.
These properties make ZEELCHEM™ 200 well suited to low- and medium-pressure boilers, thermal (MSF) desalination, evaporators, oilfield and crude-oil dehydration systems, and alkaline cooling water programmes that run without acid feed.

Dosage & method of use
As a scale inhibitor in cooling water, 1 – 15 mg/L is typical. In boilers and desalination, the dose is set by feed water hardness, alkalinity, concentration factor and top brine temperature. Our technical team recommends a dose after reviewing your water analysis.
Dosing calculator
Estimates only. Evaporation is calculated as E = 0.00153 × R × ΔT (°C); blowdown B = E ÷ (COC − 1); product feed for cooling towers = B × dose. The right dose depends on your water analysis, metallurgy and operating conditions. Our technical team will confirm it free of charge.
Packaging
50.0 kg net HDPE carboy. Each carboy is labelled with product name, batch number, net weight and GHS hazard information.
Storage & shelf life
Store in closed HDPE containers in a cool, shaded, ventilated area between 5 °C and 40 °C. Avoid freezing and direct sunlight; mix gently before use if slight stratification is seen. Shelf life: 12 months in unopened packing.
Handling & safety
Mildly acidic polymer solution. Use goggles and gloves; avoid contact with eyes and prolonged skin contact. Rinse spills with water. Refer to the ZEELCHEM™ SDS (GHS format) before handling.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between polymaleic acid and polyacrylic acid?
HPMA has a lower molecular weight and higher carboxyl density, giving superior carbonate inhibition at high temperature and alkalinity. PAA is the better general dispersant.
What temperature can ZEELCHEM™ 200 HPMA tolerate?
HPMA remains effective up to approximately 350 °C, which is why it is used in boilers and thermal desalination.
Is HPMA phosphorus-free?
Yes. ZEELCHEM™ 200 contains no phosphorus and suits low-phosphorus and non-phosphorus treatment programmes.
